Karma is a bitch

Everyone has been e-mailing me about U2 playing at the Somerville Theater tonight. I'm not too thrilled about this because now my commute home is going to be hell. Everyone and their mother will be in Davis and so the city is shutting down Davis Square. You can't buy tickets, you have to be invited by U2 (after my last post about U2 I think I'm off Bono's list) or you have to win the tickets.

How ironic, I admit to the blog world that I don't really like U2 and karma was like oh yea well enjoy they're coming to you city! Thanks karma.

When I got off the T yesterday the roadies were unloading and people were just standing there watching them unload and then the news people would ask the people watching stupid questions like "Do you think this is U2?" "Do you like U2?" How exciting!

I chose to visit my cousin in Waltham for some Mexican food. I have a little story about that which will be in an upcoming post. All I'm going to say is my home town is PRICELESS.

A tale of gay Edward Cullen and my ex

Last week Melissa and I went to this bar in a hotel called Mini Bar. We decided to class it up a little and try something new. While we're sipping our over priced wine we notice a guy walks in, not just any guy but a Robert Pattinson look alike (just a little gayer).

We can't control ourselves. We're giggle like twelve year old girls and keep looking over. I completely lose it when Melissa whispers "gay Edward Cullen is staring at you". Neither of us says anything to him. We finish our drinks and continue to laugh about it.

Flash forward to Saturday (about a week later), I get a text at 1 a.m. from Melissa telling me to come to the Tavern. I tell her I'm in bed already and the bar would be closed by the time I got there.

I check my phone in the morning and I have this text:

"Edward Cullen is at my house, he was at the Tavern! We went to GT and "DD" was checking id's at the door."

First of all, this bar is nowhere near the other bar we were at. It is completely random that she ran into him and then for her to run into my ex on the same night. Strange!

DD is a guy who I dated back in the summer and dumped me for no real good reason. I could have been walking into GT with gay Edward Cullen (who it seems is not gay) being like "yea you dumped me? We found an Edward Cullen jerk face!"

Melissa said DD said something awkward to them because he felt like a complete ass and very well should, for the way he dumped me (text message break up, OH YEA!)

And Edward Cullen is from Australia! I'm a sucker for accents (except Boston accents, sorry home boys). I'm hoping he'll be at the Tavern again, perhaps with Jasper making Edward Sissorhands faces?

Almost 25

I must be getting old because my tolerance for guys hitting on me is declining. Maybe I'm too old for this college town. I use to love faneuil hall but now I cringe when someone mentions the Bell in Hand. I feel like I'm playing a game called "who touched my butt". Oh it was the guy with the red sox hat? Well that narrows it down to 40 guys.

Really, there are some nice guys around here I just haven't found them yet. I think part of the problem is my type is the skinny jeans, tattoos, the "emo" and/or "rocker" hair and my best friend likes to go to the bars where the *red sox dudes hang out. She likes to call them "Brody boys" as in Brody Jenner from the Hills.

*No, I do not hate all guys who are red sox fans and I like the red sox. Just have to add that in before a crazy fan reads this and tracks me down to pour a beer on my head.

Sing us a song you're the piano man

A little late with the karaoke recap but it's been a busy week.

First I should tell you a little about the karaoke place we went to. It's not the classiest joint (I mean you have to smuggle your booze in a bag or giant purse) but you do get a private room and the song selection is pretty good.

I went with the "party" room because I wanted enough room for everyone. The party room was purple with disco balls, black lights, couches, tables and chairs, AND a piano. There was plenty of room for everyone. I think everyone had a blast, I know I did and I wish I was doing it again this weekend.

A few pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Matt singing Welcome to the Jungle. Pretty amazing with the dance moves.

Not sure what's happening here but I love it

Jesse, Ashley, Melissa and Darryl belting it out

Ashley, me, Allie and Germana. We take our karaoke seriously!

Ashley and Carlos did the best rendition of Barbie Girl I've ever heard.

Allie and I did the Romy and Michelle dance to Time After Time.

Matt was Axel Rose complete with dance moves.

We all sung some Queen and all the girls sang I Kissed A Girl.

Good times all around.

My New Years Eve aka my night of freezing my ass off

There's nothing like a snow storm to start off the new year. I wasn't going to let that stop me from wearing my red dress. I'm a New Englander! I'm built for the cold! (this is what I tell myself and it's such a lie).

Melissa and I had a few drinks at her place. We were reading from this awful trashy vampire book that a member at her work suggested to her. I highly suggest reading bad books while drinking beer.

We made it to our destination which was Tequila Rain. The coat check line was long and when we got to the front they were full. We had to go up to some other floor for our coat check.

I am not going back to Tequila Rain any time soon. They had two beer choices and we had two random creepy guys following us around the whole night. The guys were awful! We left early and headed to our normal haunt the Tavern. I ran into the bartender that I was dating. We're still friendly but our relationship is not going anywhere.

Melissa and I went back to her house and lost feeling in our toes. We ended the night with mac & cheese.

So not a bad night but next year I think I'm going to take it easy. No Tequila Rain.

Here's my dress. Yes I'm pale. I love red though.

Melissa and I. We were a little too sober for Tequila Rain.

Here's to hoping 2009 is even better than 2008

Just a mothball smelling Monday

I'm not a very patient person and I admit that but today on the T I had to have a little talk with myself and say: Self, this is silly. You're mad because there is a medical emergency on the train in front of you. Please note that someone is ill and needs help so stop being a bitch and and fuming over a medical emergency!

The train smelt like mothballs. I think this was attributing to my crankiness.

So hello Monday. Glad you could make my morning as lovely as that mothball smelling train.

Doing my civic duty

With November 4th not too far off the ads for Question 1, 2, and 3 are everywhere! I actually have an opinion about all of them and I’ll tell you right now how I’m voting.

First, here are the actual questions on the Massachusetts ballot for 2008:

1. State Personal Income Tax
2. Possession of Marijuana
3. Dog Racing

State Personal Income Tax:

This proposed law would reduce the state personal income tax rate to 2.65% for all categories of taxable income for the tax year beginning on or after January 1, 2009, and would eliminate the tax for all tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2010.

Reducing and then eliminating the state income tax makes no sense to me. Our public services would suffer drastically. Police, fire, schools, roadway maintenance would all suffer as they rely on this money. The state of Massachusetts would lose more than 12 billion dollars. I’d like to know how you can make up for a 12 billion dollar deficit.

Possession of Marijuana:

This proposed law would replace the criminal penalties for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana with a new system of civil penalties, to be enforced by issuing citations, and would exclude information regarding this civil offense from the state's criminal record information system. Offenders age 18 or older would be subject to forfeiture of the marijuana plus a civil penalty of $100. Offenders under the age of 18 would be subject to the same forfeiture and, if they complete a drug awareness program within one year of the offense, the same $100 penalty.

My basic thinking regarding this is I’d rather have room in jails for people who really need to be there. I also don’t see how you can view smoking pot any worse than drinking. So I say if you have one legal they should both be legal or both be illegal (I like my beer and don’t like cough syrup so please let’s not do that). This proposed law is not making pot legal it is decriminalizing it if it’s under a certain amount. If you’re under 18 they fine you and send you to a program about the dangers of substance abuse and make you do community service. I don’t think this proposed law will turn everyone into Cheech and Chong.

Dog Racing:

This proposed law would prohibit any dog racing or racing meeting in Massachusetts where any form of betting or wagering on the speed or ability of dogs occurs.

I just don’t believe in racing animals period. It seems the opponents to Question 3’s main argument is that people will lose jobs. Everyday I read the metro and there’s an ad with sad people saying “don’t take our jobs”. Can we put that next to a picture of a sad dog saying “don’t take my life or injure me for money!”

So there are my thoughts. You probably don’t care if you’re not voting in Massachusetts but I actually do care about these issues and well what better place to pimp out your opinion than on the interenets.
